Headteacher of Currie High School

Dear Parents and Carers

I am writing to you to publicly express my thanks and to pay respect to outgoing Headteacher, Mrs Doreen MacKinnon. Doreen has led the school since 2012 with clear vision, ambition and compassion for the community. Doreen will be greatly missed by us all. In particular, I would like to pay credit to her strong and steady contribution to partnership working with the professional associations. Doreen has had an impact not only for Currie, but for all schools in Edinburgh.
The process of appointing her replacement has begun and I am pleased to inform you that Ms Lesley Muir, Depute Headteacher will lead the school until 20th January 2020 when Ms Jennifer Smith takes up the post of Acting Headteacher until the end of session. Some of you may know Ms Smith who previously worked at Currie and is currently Depute Headteacher at Queensferry High School.
During this period, the Authority will work closely with the Senior Leadership team as the plans for the new school are progressed.
We will also continue with the recruitment process, with a view to the permanent Headteacher taking up post for the new session in August.
I will visit the Parent Council within the next few weeks to discuss all of this in more detail. Please get in touch with me directly if you wish any more information.
Meantime, I wish you and your families the very best Christmas and New Year, and to Doreen a thoroughly well-deserved and enjoyable retirement.

Yours sincerely

Lorna Sweeney Schools & Lifelong Learning Senior Manager Quality, Improvement & Curriculum
